Here at SM Hypermarket, We've Got It All For You!!
I've been a regular SM Supermarket shopper since the day they opened their branch at North Edsa way back. Soon after, they opened a larger grocery on the other side, the SM Super Sale Club. This became, for us, the grocery to end all groceries. They had it all...food, clothes, hardware, furniture, electricals, and more food!!
Sometime last year, the Mamang Sorbetero at SM Super Sale Club informed us that the place would be closed to make way for a new parking building. We also found out that a new "mall" would be built on the space that was once an open parking lot. Thus, the Block was born.
Sometime last year, the Mamang Sorbetero at SM Super Sale Club informed us that the place would be closed to make way for a new parking building. We also found out that a new "mall" would be built on the space that was once an open parking lot. Thus, the Block was born.
Grocery? Yep, within the massive confines of the Block was SM Hypermarket at North Edsa. In the beginning we were a bit wary of this new grocery. We were still suffering withdrawal symptoms from the loss of our beloved SM Super Sale Club. A few visits and a couple of purchases later, we were sold. This was not only a grocery, this was a lifestyle store....plus plus.
I can't say enough about the meat, veggies, and other food items. They have the widest selection you can find this side of the planet. I could be exaggerating but that's exactly how I feel. If there is any ingredient I'm looking for, for a particular dish, I'm sure I'll find it there. But everyone already knows that.
Things for the kids...they've got it. They even have bottle sterilizers in various brands. Diapers, wipes, milk, pillows, everything!
Two purchases, however, have made my trooping to SM Hypermarket truly worthwhile. A bike and a bathing suit.
My youngest daughter, Adi, does not have a fondness for toys. Unlike her older sister, she is not very patient when playing with toys. She prefers odd things like tupperware, plastic bottles, and toilet paper.
Sometime February we were at SM Hypermarket to buy the things we would use for her 2nd birthday party. We were at the toys section to get some party favors when we noticed Adi eyeing a perpetual motion bike. The sales clerk in charge offered to have her try it out. As soon as she got on it there was no looking back. She drove that thing up and down the aisles and was the picture of the happiest child ever. We had to get this for her as this was the first time she displayed an affinity for a toy. For a little under Php1000, this was a steal. This was her birthday present and, to this day, her favorite plaything.
My fabulous SM Hypermarket moment came around summertime. I was able to purchase a beautiful swimsuit that fit my now less-than-perfect-figure to a T. And for only Php600+. I've had my fair share of swimsuit shopping in various retail outlets so it came as a pleasant surprise that I would find my perfect suit in, of all places, a supermarket.
Truly, SM Hypermarket is a shopper's paradise. And as the tag line goes....they've got it all for you!!

We used to shop at Super Sale Club too! Baka nagkikita tayo dati, hehe.
Ang dami nang ginigiba sa SM North Edsa, buildings where I spent a lot of happy weekends with family. All in the name of progress right? At least may kapalit pala ng Hypermarket.
Heard that the Annex was also demolished. Nandoon pa naman ang mga paborito kong branch ng Wendy's at A&W dati. And I used to play Bingo there too! *hides in shame* I didn't buy as many cards as the old ladies who are there everyday, 3 or 4 lang. Pero enjoy pa rin ako sa kaka-stamp ng mga Bingo cards. I even bought one of those stamper pens they sell there, hehe.
Medyo off-topic pala ang comment ko but I hope you got some laughs out of it nonetheless :)
After my workout, i'd almost always drop by Hypermarket. nakaka hyper sa dami ng items no? I love the ingenuity of how they bag the items - those bag dispensers in lieu of boy-baggers. Kaya SM is a giant - it considers even these small things.
We used to go to Super Sale Club a lot when Cherry Foodarama was not yet around the vicinity. But I have to agree w/ you, they've got everything at SM Hypermart. And it's so spacious. Ang sarap mag-grocery.
Hi Cookie, I used to frequent the SM North Edsa branch when I was still in college. It's the one nearest to UST. Had great memories there with my friends. Now, I do my shopping plus the groceries at SM Fairview, near my place or MOA when I visit my mom's place. One stop shop talaga.
Btw, I sent you an email. Hope to see you soon.
ooh, this is for the contest no? the judges are going to have a hard time. this is another great entry!
pareho tayo, may withdrawal symptoms din kasi wala na ang supersale. pero oks lang pala, this is cool, hyper. madalas na rin ako dito.
I thought it was odd reading about same SM at Annamanila's blog. Wow, may pacontest pala. I wonder if she knew about it. Good luck. Must be nice to go shopping there.
Lovely finds you got there. It's always nice to find good things at affordable prices. We buy our groceries at SM too but haven't been to SM Hypermarket yet being too far from home.
Malapit ka di pala sa SMhypermart! So we live close to each other.
Sana we stumble into each other on one of our shopping days. Wow, that would be hyper super!
Hi Christianne!! Uyy, bingo girl ka pala. I remember that "binguhan" sa tapat ng Slimmer's World (I used to workout there). My gym-classmates would spend some time there too. Ako sa bowling.
Pag-uwi mo ulit you'll be surprised at the changes. The Block, Hypermarket, Ace Hardware...super ganda na :)
Hi Chateau!! Yes, I've always been fascinated with that "bag-holder" contraption they have at the check-out lane. Ang galing. Sometimes nga nakikialam ako at ako ang nag-babag. Just to try. And the convenience of just going up the elevator to the parking area. Galing no :)
Re..hyper at the Hypermarket. Ayos, dagdag sa workout din yun. Extra calories burned pa :)
Hi Lynn!! Yep, spacious is an understatement. ANG LAKI LAKI!! You know, my kids go gaga when we go there. They love running around or riding those "car-carts". Siguradong walang mababangga, either way :)
Hi Rowena!! I also go to SM Fairview every week. My in-laws live in DJ Heights kasi so my husband and I make a quick visit to SM Farview...este Fairview pala...all the time. Di pa ba Hypermarket ang grocery doon? Di nga ata, yellow pa ang plastic bag di ba :)
Hi Cess!! Talaga, thanks ha (re..good entry) :)
Pwera sipsip lang pero favorite ko talaga ang SM North Edsa. It's near, lots of parking, daming shops...grabe everything is here na. Pati Ace is here na din.
You live near here, too?
Hi Leah!! Just in case you have the chance to come home, you'll really enjoy shopping here. All my balikbayan relatives do their shopping (first-minute and last-minute) shopping here :)
Hi Rachel!! We have some other "fab-finds" that we got at SM Hypermarket but I couldn't find them. Must have been sucked by the mysterious blackhole here in the house (read...OC someone). Which SM branch do you frequent?
Hi Annamanila!! You go to the branch in Pasig, right? Kami dito lang sa North Edsa. However, we do visit the Pasig branch every now and then because my sister lives in that area.
Hopefully, we stumble into each other one of these days. Di lang hyper-super yun, kung sakali. Hyper-super-duper pa :)
A swimsuit in a supermarket? Now that's something!
I used to live in the West Av area and was all too familiar with SM City, the Annex, the Carpark and the Super Sale Club. There used to be a string of stalls (People's Park nga ba yon?) pa nga where the MRT now stands. Now, the whole complex is totally different. As in nawawala ako...
Galing naman! Talagang you can earn something from blogging ano?
Good luck!!
Hi Coffeefreak!! Galing di ba. I was actually having a panic attack because we were leaving for Subic the following day and my old suit got caught in the sampayan. I didn't have time na to go to the swankier shops so I was resigned to not go swimming na lang. Eh kaso nakita ko itong bathing suit. Very nice fit. Tago lahat ng bilibilitis :)
Hi Momoftwo!! You know, I was planning to write about Adi's bike talaga. Sana for her next birthday. Eh this contest came up. Tamang-tama :)
I love SM Supermarket mostly because that is usually where I can find a tall bottle of Planters unsalted Roasted Peanuts without driving all the way to Landmark in Makati.
Senor Enrique, Planters unsalted Roasted Peanuts and a cold drink will really hit the spot any time of the day. And yes, SM Hypermarket always has it in stock along with the Honey Roasted Peanuts too (my personal favorite) :)
we use to make tambay there. that was back in the early 90s. dami ng bago pala.
Hi Raquel!! Ay naku, it's so different na. Wala ng annex. I don't really know what they're building there now pero massive ang construction. The new structure, the Block, is so nice. So different from the original SM City. Medyo mas upscale and mas maluwang. Ganda pa ng grocery :)
